The Branson Family continued to listen with impressive zeal.
I continued telling them about the Osage bison, local eggs and milk, and specialty beans we carried at the Tulsa coffee shop where I worked.
- As I explained the shop's mission and values, they actually seemed to care.
- Not everyone was interested in the curiosities of the shop that I loved telling stories about.
I told The Branson Family I was a former journalist and saw stories in everything, and everyone, all the time.
I loftily described why we should celebrate local small businesses that enrich communities like Tulsa.
I pointed to our beloved, house-made pecan butter cups with ingredients from other local businesses. I said the owner traveled the world to bring fancy coffee beans back to humble Tulsa.
I said Okies work hard and shouldn't be judged by me over what they know about fancy coffee.
The Branson Family was still smiling, still nodding.
