Why does it feel so good to mercilessly judge each other?
- We judge each other for not having a Costco card. We judge each other for not binge-watching “Friends.”
- We judge each other for not going on fad diets. We judge each other for wearing too much black or sleeping too late or liking sex.
We judge each other for not parenting more like Karen.
We judge each other as neighbors, as Americans, as followers of Jesus, and as enthusiasts of death metal and gangster rap.
- We call millions upon millions of other human beings we’ve never met trash and lazy and selfish.
- We can't psychologically see our own garbage as well as we think we can.
We call others trash for not talking pretty.
We call others trash for shopping at dollar stores.
We call them trash for liking Slipknot.
We call them trash for going to Red Lobster more than church.
We call them trash for not wearing Lululemon.
We call them trash for daring to have children and love them more than money.
Why does judgment have to feel so good?
