At a Tulsa coffee shop where I worked in my hometown, my biases toward The Branson Family and their Christian values made me feel smug and gave me a rush of superiority.
They showed me that whether naturally occurring or not, our ugly prejudices distort reality and scorch the earth around us. ๐๐ฅ
Even for me, a reverence of science can't overcome my automatic judgments.
As Duke University psychologist Dan Ariely wrote in his book "MisBelief: What Makes Rational People Believe Irrational Things," science struggles to compete with "creative minds unfettered by facts."

I tell people only half-jokingly that my heart bleeds the darkest blood.
I imagine that my interpretation of saving the world is everyone elseโs interpretation of saving the world.
But saving the world means first grasping that the sovereignty of 8.2 billion people stands in the way of our individual interpretations of saving the world.
You say Jesus built my hotrod. But I determine its meaning.
